Our Team

Silverbee’s team of experienced, enthusiastic, creative PR professionals have helmed communications and special projects at national media organizations; universities, museums, music festivals, and community centers. We’ve launched new broadcast programs, promoted discoveries in food, travel, and the environment; and counseled CEOs, celebrities, classical and jazz musicians, and guided public relations for the Olympics, Nobel Prize and Academy Award winners.

Jenny Lawhorn, Principal

Jenny Lawhorn

Jenny Lawhorn founded Silverbee to focus her communications experience on the kinds of projects she loves most: path-finding personalities, worthy causes, nonprofit corporations, and the arts.

An award-winning writer and communications specialist, Jenny has built PR campaigns for clients across a wide range of issues—including film and music, the environment, space exploration, travel, and social justice. The connection between these various projects? They all tie into important, much bigger causes. She has proven able to guide the public image of bold personalities and shape complex ideas into compelling stories, from shepherding the true story of a Liberian peace worker who won the Nobel Peace Prize to marketing a quirky news quiz that quickly became one of the most popular shows in the U.S. In the entertainment industry, she manages campaigns for documentaries, music events and celebrities involved in science, human rights, and journalism. She has been a contributor to film and entertainment PR firm Fat Dot and DC-based PR and Events firm Scott Circle.

Before starting her own consultancy in 2005, Jenny spent more than 15 years working in broadcast news and entertainment. At NPR, she guarded the organization’s reputation as corporate spokesperson and managed promotion for new initiatives, news, music, and entertainment programs Car Talk, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me. At NPR’s flagship station WNYC New York she contributed to the campaign that transformed WNYC from a small government-run broadcaster to an independent media foundation and national powerhouse for news, culture, and music.

Jenny has also worked in the programming and consumer products divisions at Nickelodeon and reported for NPR affiliate WVTF-FM in Virginia, where she honed her journalism skills by covering local and national news.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Jenny has received communications awards from PR News, as well as a Thoth Award and PRSA Silver Anvil. She also received a Virginia State AP award for journalism.
